Planned: 17-20 AUG 2006 Victory Falls / Botswana Fly-in

FROM: dolp (AT) mlasset DOT co DOT za:

Some time ago I sent out an e mail suggesting a trip into Botswana and all the way up to Kesane and Vic Falls. Due to all the other activities and the time it took wit the RV10, I left the idea hanging. Also, the best time for Botswana is probably winter time due to the summer weather that makes flying difficult.

I have been in contact with Dave Armstrong again and we are now looking at the week-end of 17-20 August as a possible week as Dave is going to Oshkosh and is away from 19 July to 15 August. (For those who don't know Dave, Dave and Jenny have their own Game Lodge called Grundy's close to Francistown. He also has his own strip which is tarred and easy to land on. Dave is building a RV7 and is nearing completion. He flies Gyro's and has a Gyro agency). However, they can only accommodate 6 couples at Grundy's and should we be more than 6 couples accommodation will also be arranged in Francistown for the Thursday and possibly the Saturday night.

The preliminary iternary at this stage is as follows:

Thursday 17 August:
Arrive at Pilansberg, clear customs and immigration and proceed to Selibe Pikwe or Francistown to clear customs/immigration. Spend the afternoon and evening at Grundy's and plan/brief flight details from there on.

Friday 18 August:
Depart Grundy's early morning for Kesane. Early afternoon game drive and sunset cruise on the Chobe. Overnight at Kesane.

Saturday 19 August:
Depart Kesane, overfly Vic Falls and route back to Orapa Diamond mine via Magadigadi pans, Sua pans and the big salt pans. Lunch at Orapa and then on to Deception Valley Lodge or alternatively to Grundy's and Francis Town.

Sunday 20 August:
Back to South Africa via Pietersburg or again Pilansberg and clear customs/immigration and head home.

This is still in the planning phase and I would like to see how many are interested so we can get some prices and firm up on the bookings. My experience is that Botswana is not expensive in general but accommodation at Kesane and Deception could amount to something.

Could those interested please let me have your detail including the number of people. Once we have this information I will set the wheels in motion and firm up on the planning.

Safe flying

Dolph.
