Sardine Run Fly-in: Margate 13-16 June

On Behalf Of Dolph Kruger

Louis,

Sad to hear that you have sold your RV8 and that the new guy has already damaged it. Thanks for offering to help with organizing the RV Sardine Run.

I have spoken to Graham at Margate and he says that the airport is being given back to the Council by Airlink. He will try and get landing fees waived if we take on Avgas. This he will do as soon as he is certain who the new owners are.

One of the first things that we have to do is to identify possible accommodation for everybody and set up arrangements for people to book their accommodation.

The next is to draw up a programme for the week-end and sent this out to all the RV guys as this usually gets them into starting to commit for the fly-in.

The following can serve as guideline and I would like to have everyone’s suggestions on this:

Friday 13 June:

Arrival and check in at accommodation

Evening programme????

Saturday 14 June:

Fly-in to Friedenheim/Delta Golf for Breakfast???

Spot landing and other competition at FAMG

Afternoon Formation flying down the coast Port Shepstone to Port Edward for those who have done the Formation Flying training?

Saturday evening: Braai at Margate Flying Club

Sunday 15 June:

Sunday morning: Recovery/free time/family time

Mid Morning: Group flying and whale spotting down the coast to Port St Johns

Sunday Afternoon family time

Monday: Departure.

There are other possibilities as well but we should also have RV group photograph taken with all RV’s on the apron.

Let me know what you think.

Hi all,

Here is a reply from Louis who hangars at Delta Golf about 5 miles NE of Margate Airport. Hillbillion Lodge is within walking distance from Louis hangar and we will certainly also land and park at Louis and Des’ strip. Fredenheim is a beautiful strip about 10 minutes (in an RV) from Margate and is set in a scenic spot overlooking Oribi Gorge. Chalkie and other Rv’s landed and had brunch there when we went down the coast to Overberg in November and they assure me that it is like a bowling green.

We will definitely take Louis up on the spit braai at Delta Golf (I see he left out the strip show this time. We will also cater for the ladies with a muscle men strip) as this is always a feast and with Louis’ hospitality we can’t get better!

To assist you and make a block booking at Hillbillions we need to know who are going. I see that Chris have 4 confirmations. Common everyone this is a good area and time to be flying down the coast. Lets get some commitment and let us know who is going. Either let me or Chris Spencer-Scarr know.

Dolph

Hi Dolph

All this sounds great and I am sure we can do lots more if anyone feels good to fly down the Wild Coast to some very scenic places like Waterfall Bluff .

I can arrange a group rate for everyone to stay at Hillbillion Lodge . this venu is good as everyone can be in walking distance to their planes.

The Saterday night I can do aspit braai and run a cash bar for the boys in my hanger or we can have that at the lodge ,

I will stay intouch with you to finalise everything closer to the time

We are looking forward to seeing all the boys .

Breakfeast at fredheim is also ok

Cheers

Louis Smit
